She was turning 4 years old and informed me the cake needed to be 'PINK' and 'Hello Kitty' was a must! I scanned the internet for images of Hello Kitty. Since my children are adults and I had no idea who or what Hello Kitty was, a bit of research was in order.
This is the second cake I'd made using marshmallow fondant. I, like thousands of others, love watching all of the great cake decorating shows. They were my true inspirations. I have to admit, I'm not much for classes on decorating, I prefer the comfort of my home and practicing from videos. I enjoyed jumping in with both feet after reading recipes and watching dozens of videos on techniques.
The Hello Kitty cake is the result of a child's wishes and ideas gathered from various cakes created by other 'artists'. My hobbies are painting, photography and writing children's stories (I'm in the process of illustrating my first book for print). Creative baking brings me so much joy, so a couple of months ago I decided I'm going to start my own cupcake/cake business.
As to how I made this cake...very truly, I made a whole lot of fondant, looked at a whole lot of photos and just started putting my ideas together. I baked a strawberry cake to cover and strawberry buttercream frosting. I crumb coated the cake (YouTube videos!!) and just began! Though this cake was a gift for my niece...I have to add, I'd never charge anyone for anything less than perfect and this cake wasn't close to what I consider perfect!
This was my version of Hello Kitty laying on a big, girly bed with lot's of pillows and her sparkly dress. The most fun I've ever had baking a cake!! Wish I'd discovered this years ago when my children were small~ Can't wait for grandchildren!
