Description

I love this vanilla custard filling in between yellow cake with chocolate ganache on top - boston cream cake. Yum!
 

Ingredients

1⁄3 c
granulated sugar
2 T
cornstarch
1⁄4 t
Salt
1 1⁄2 c
Milk
2
egg yolks (beaten)
2 t
Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a small saucepan.
  2. Stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Boil for 1 minute before removing from heat.
  4. Stir a few tablespoons of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolk.
  5. Pour the egg mixture back into the hot milk mixture. Bring mixture back to a boil.
  6. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Cool mixture to room temperature.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and chill until set.

 

Notes

This custard can be served in a glass and enjoyed as pudding or fill a cake. You can vary it by adding chocolate shavings for a nice touch,
