Windsor Cake and Art Show
In spring 2016, the Windsor Whip Works Art Gallery located in Windsor, New York will host the Windsor Cake and Art Show. Planning is still in the early stages; however, my goal is to merge the cake and art worlds, featuring elements of both types of shows. I invite cake decorators to bring their most artistic creations to show the art world that sugar belongs in the list of artistic mediums right alongside oil paint, watercolor, charcoal, etc. Just because cake is eaten, does not mean it's not art. My goal is to inspire other art galleries to follow suit and for sugar artists to be featured in the art world, whether it be in shows at galleries, articles in magazines or on display in museums.
This is something I have been wanting to do for many years and was finally inspired to get the ball rolling by Kerry Vincent. I admire what she has done to elevate sugar art by hosting the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show each year and feel we must continue to challenge sugar artists to take cake decorating to the next level in order to ensure our industry will flourish in the future.
First Friday - art gallery opening for a new artist presentation
The Windsor Whip Works Art Gallery is owned by my parents, Bill and Johanne Pesce. When my father sold his advertising agency, Austin & Williams, in Hauppauge, New York, my parents relocated from East Northport, Long Island, to Windsor, where they have owned a vacation home since I was three. My mother is a retired high school business teacher who taught in the Half Hollow Hills School District in Dix Hills, New York.
